This was a few days ago. World's best all rounder Shakib Al Hasan gave an interview to journalist Utpal Soot. There was a lot of controversy about that interview due to his straightforward comments on Panchpandav and other issues, but apart from cricket and discussion or controversial talk, Shakib said a very important thing in that interview which was not discussed at all. While in Bangladesh, my eldest daughter Alaina would wake up crying every day before going to school, said Shakib, hinting that the family would settle in America. But before giving a call in America, he gets up by himself, closes his eyes, brushes himself and gets ready for school. What could be better for me? Why Shakib claimed to be the only Pandav is a much more important issue than whether Shakib's statement has disrespected other senior players but is hidden in these few lines. Why should the school place become a name of horror to a five to six year old girl?
This story is not just about Eliner. Millions of children are the goal of this country. Shakib has the ability. He sent his family abroad. Elaina is now going to school smiling. But we don't have that smile on our faces. The sick system of this country's education system has taken away the smile. A report by the World Bank has shown that what a child learns at the age of eleven in our country is equivalent to learning at the age of four and a half years in the world. Our teachers also have a lot of shortages in teaching places. According to a report by Public Education Campaign for Mass Education, thirty-seven percent of teachers in Bangladesh depend on guide books for teaching. Similarly, they are unable to ask creative questions, if one goes to ruminate about the education system in Bangladesh, one has no choice but to be shocked.
Here is Bengali Medium. Have English medium. There are separately. Cadet Curriculum. Apart from this, there are also vocational or technical education systems. There are open universities. The educational system of any other country in the world is not such a mess, education is not an instrument of happiness but a name of a rate race and more importantly how effective this education system is in real life.
What will this generation do after twenty years? How effective will the school college certificate be?
Think carefully about the skillful activities that are useful in our real life but schools or colleges cannot teach us in twelve years of education till intermediate. Even the universities fail in this place. Want examples. Imagine making a good CV. This science is not included in our academic education. Being able to type quickly in Bengali or English is considered as a special qualification in the job market. But that is not taught in college or university. But before going to work life, these two will be needed. Similarly, creating a good presentation and writing emails in Microsoft World Excel are not included in our curriculum. You have to learn them separately. Quick learning ability is not done in our education system. Team work is not well understood. Universities have become certificate selling factories day by day. They don't have any headache about developing the skills of students. For this reason, when a student enters the ocean of job hunting after completing his honors or master's degree, he finds himself in a desperate state. Ten years of school, two years of college, four to six years. Even after a tiring journey of sixteen to eighteen years, he saw that his talent was empty. Having to drink water after washing the certificate. Our country's education system is a very bad culture. Tuition or private tutoring arrangements outside the school college.
It is very old saying. Don't talk about it. But this tuition trade blames the teachers exclusively but to no avail. The teacher's salary is probably the lowest among the professions in our country. From primary higher secondary to university teachers, there is enough doubt whether such a low salary can be found in any other country in the world. It can be said that teachers in secondary schools have no opportunity for promotion as well as salary and allowances. An assistant teacher in the 10th Red does not get promoted even after fourteen to fifteen years. On the one hand, it is said that education is the backbone of the nation and teachers are the craftsmen of making people. On the other hand, when those teachers went to the streets to claim their rights, they fell in front of the police water cannon. Why do teachers not worry about additional income? Most secondary schools do not have teachers with degrees in English and mathematics. Especially in village schools it is almost non-existent. As a result, college and university students are admitted with very insufficient knowledge of these two subjects, but to read and know all the books and journals of humanities, social sciences, business, administration, science, and journals, it is necessary to know English and mathematics. Every year lakhs of our students are embarking on the path of higher education with this weakness due to which degrees like MA, MSc and MBA are not given due importance or respectability but in many cases they become light or ridiculous. We can't keep good students in the country, high students, they are migrating, their talent is being smuggled abroad. This country does not have the appreciation of the genius, there is no research path. So why do they stay in the country? The most important thing is to keep a large budget behind education. Appropriate development plans have to be formulated and implemented.
The countries that have prospered and are making progress in the world, the ones we marvel at and feel a little jealous of, have all made the highest investment in education. Sometimes he went beyond his means. For example, Cuba and Korea have been embargoed by Western countries led by the United States against Cuba for a long time. Its economy is in a very fragile state. But the country has not shied away from investing in education. They are now reaping the benefits. Now the United States wants to get close to Cuba. For several years the country has been allocating nine percent of its GDP to education. On the other hand, only two and a half percent of our total budget is allocated for education. The percentage is less than Nepal. Universities are called auditoriums of higher education. There will be research here, there will be new discoveries, there will be a meeting of talented people. A university spends more than the budget allocated for research in the universities of our country every year in entertaining guests. The university campus is corrupted by politics. Even if you get a seat in the hall, you have to build a relationship with the student leaders. Leave the words of the students alone.
Even the teachers have been involved in gangs since the nineties. When the VC of the country's top university is proud of the tea-chop and singara of his canteen. Then it can be understood that the quality of the university has fallen to the bottom. | A UNICEF report says children in primary schools in the Netherlands are given little or no homework. Children are not pressured to study. They do not have to sit for any serious exams until the age of twelve. The country's children lead the happiest lives. Finnish students do not have a headache with daily homework. At the age of sixteen they only have to take part in a compulsory examination. And what are we doing with primary education. We are organizing public examination after two years. Giving GPA five. A sick minded IMGPA Five Generation has been created. Those who think that getting a good result in the exam is everything in the world. In France, the school education system is focused on training teachers as well as selecting qualified teachers. In Japan, special attention is given to the training and selection of kindergarten teachers. From Bhutan to Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand, primary schools have 100% trained teachers. These countries have trained their teachers with responsibility. But in this case our position is far away. UNESCO's Global Education Monitoring Report shows that Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Myanmar have more than eighty to ninety percent of trained teachers. In Bangladesh this rate is only fifty percent. In other words, half of the teachers in our country's schools, colleges, madrasas or universities are not trained.
If you take a good look around you will see a lot of educated people walking around unemployed. All of them have Honors or Masters degrees. Grade points are also good enough. Not getting a job. Because they do not have the skills to compete in the job market. It is true that they have acquired the knowledge of school, college, university but they are not able to use that knowledge. Another bad thing about the education system is that only getting a job is made the main purpose of education. Many young women are losing many years from their lives by being addicted to BCS. This time labor could have done much better than they had elsewhere. So far I have only heard stories of disappointment. Of course, if we talk about our education system, the darkness around us will be seen more. The education system should be reformed to overcome this situation. Teachers should be paid more and they should be trained. Achieving GPA will stop the sick competition. Skillful courses that are important in career should also be included in the curriculum. The process of recruitment of teachers from primary to university should be made transparent and free of complications. The promotion of university teachers salary increase and all other benefits should be based on their research.
Finland's schools employ high-quality teachers from the primary grades with high salaries. On the other hand plenty of time is given for sports besides reading. Apart from that, homework is not given in Finland. And most classes don't even take tests unless it's really necessary. We also have to work out of the box to come out of this vicious cycle of only class exams and tuition. The benefits of this change may not be available immediately. But if the work starts from today, then after twenty five years, the face of this country will change. Because the students today will be the leaders of the nation. They will advance the country. The question is, who will do this difficult task of tying a bell around the neck of a cat?
