The developed world is now on the way to 5G because of the long journey of technology. Bangladesh is also walking on that path in keeping with the world of technology. The government wants to launch Five G on the 50th anniversary of independence. On the occasion of fifty years of independence in the first quarter of the year two thousand twenty one.
Some people say four G, some people say four point five G. Some people make it four point nine G. That is, about five G. However, the internet speed is slow. Name four G not work three GO. Such a situation in the internet service of mobile operators in Bangladesh. Fourth generation or fourth generation internet service is available in our country but if we talk about the speed we get as a customer, we have to hide our face in shame.
Last June, an international organization measuring internet speed, Okla, conducted a survey. According to the survey called Speed Test Global Index, the position of Bangladesh among one hundred and thirty seven countries in the world. Number one hundred and thirty-five. Bangladesh is behind only the war-torn country of Afghanistan and Venezuela, which is in economic crisis due to trade sanctions. But what is the reason for such poor condition of mobile internet speed in Bangladesh?
Why is the condition of Bangladesh worse than Ethiopia and Somalia, known as poor countries in Africa. In the last one year, the use of Internet bandwidth in Bangladesh has increased two times due to Corona. But the ability of telecom companies to adapt to this, i.e. their use of wireless waves, has not increased in proportion. This is mainly the reason why customers are not getting their desired internet speed. Latency and jitter are indicators of the time it takes for a mobile phone to fully establish contact with its network. The longer this time takes on the millisecond scale, the slower the internet speed will be. The average latency and jitter of mobile internet in Bangladesh are forty-three and forty-seven milliseconds respectively. However, the latency jitter in the January measurement was between thirty-eight and forty-nine milliseconds. In other words, the speed of mobile internet in Bangladesh has decreased in these six months. did not rise.
Mobile operators in Bangladesh have been claiming to be providing four G speed internet services for several years. Even very soon they will bring the new technology of the Internet 5G service is also heard. But there is a big difference between the real 4G speed and the 4G speed of mobile operators in Bangladesh. Operators claim uninterrupted internet connection nationwide in their colorful advertisements and campaigns, but sometimes customers face problems in getting connection within the capital city of Dhaka. And the condition of the districts outside Dhaka, especially the Mofswal region and rural areas, is even more deplorable. Frequent connection loss, call drop, browsing and download speed dropping to almost zero. Network from 4G to 2G frequently. If you go underground or on the top floor of a multi-storied building, you cannot get the network. These allegations are quite old. Many times it is seen that the customer has bought the internet package but due to these problems the data volume is not used anymore.
But Grameen Phone has launched LT services in their 15,500 towers a few days ago. This service has been running in around ten thousand towers of Bangla Link for a long time. Another mobile operator Robi said that four point five g or LT advance is running in their eleven thousand base stations or towers. Although the Okla server installed by Robi Network is not able to average twelve and a half MBPA. A small proof of how far the country's mobile internet speed lags behind international standards. Last January, the average download speed of mobile internet in our country was 10.57 Mbps. Upload speed is seven decimal one nine Mbps. But in developed countries this speed was over one hundred to one hundred and seventy Mbps. For a long time, mobile phone operators have not invested in the development of their 3G and 4G networks with the excuse that 5G is coming. There are many problems with tower sharing.
Besides, due to the lack of necessary sprinkler, the internet speed is lower in the areas where there are more customers. There is not as much BTS as needed in that area. Let's say an operator has eight crore subscribers.
But their spectrum allocation is only thirty seven megahertz. Where they were supposed to be a customer is a hundred mega hertz waves. But they are making profit without providing quality service.
During the corona period, mobile phone operators have seen profit without any investment for the past one year. But none of them spent a part of that profit to provide good internet service to the customers. Many people say that the price of mobile Indian in Bangladesh is much lower than the developed world. It is true. Operators can make a lot of profit from that low price. Because the number of active subscribers per mobile tower in our country is very, very, very high. But even if there are thousands of active customers in the same tower, the technical resource of the base band of the tower is completely insufficient to provide them quality service. Each mobile tower in our country usually has 75 to 100 download and upload resources. Which is very insignificant compared to the total customer demand.
This resource is shared on a two-year basis. For this reason, the speed of the internet that is available in the speed test is not even a quarter of the customer. For this reason, the same resource is shared among more consumers. And the speed of the internet keeps decreasing. Because of this, Messenger or WhatsApp call drop or YouTube Facebook page loading is a regular occurrence. Mobile operators counter-blamed BTRC. BTRC could not make available the waves of 7894, 1800, 2100, 2600 and 2700 bands suitable for use in 4G technology. Just as teletalk is wasting some airwaves with a small number of subscribers, some airwaves reserved for railways or the army are constantly being wasted. The operators demand that more than half of their total revenue from all types of revenue should be paid to the government. So it is not possible for them to provide good network services at high cost. Our Ministry of Telecom is as interested in holding auctions for allocation of spectrum for new waves as it is indifferent to fixing the shortcomings of mobile internet services and benefiting billions of internet beneficiaries. Thousands of young financiers are scattered in the city and countryside. Those who are repeatedly interrupted due to lack of good internet speed. Entrepreneurs who do business online, students who take classes or whose high-income depends on the Internet. Those people are in great danger. The name of the country which is eight steps above Bangladesh in this Oclar survey is Uganda. The country we always troll about is also eight steps ahead of us in the world of mobile internet.
Zambia, Tanzania, Somalia, Ghana, Sudan and Zimbabwe mobile internet speed is much higher than ours.
